They were getting very close to Dathomir now, and Ben was trying not to get too antsy about just getting this portion of the mission started, or about seeing Uncle Han and Aunt Leia pretty soon.

Luke wasn't recovering nearly as fast as he'd like--he still looked kind of flattened from his experience in the Maw.

Ben sat in the cockpit, triple-checked their trajectory, and tried to relax.

"Skywalker," Ben answered.

"Is there such a thing as a rock that turns people into aliens?" Tony asked, gritting his now pointy teeth at the fact that typing at become ten times harder with freaky claws.

"...why?" Ben asked slowly.

"Because I think we have that here," Tony said carefully around the new teeth. "I have a tail."

"YOU HAVE A TAIL?!"

Inside voice, Ben.

Wincing at that, Tony took a moment to use the phone to take a picture of himself to send to Ben. "It's not as bad as some people."

Barely. Just barely.

"Kriffing hells, people look worse than this?!"

Beat.

"Um, no offense."

"Thanks for your support," Tony deadpanned. "You guys miss the best stuff here."

"Like having tails," Ben said. "How long has this been going on?"

"Something weird happened Monday and we were moved back to the dorms," Tony replied, looking at those claws. "Then they asked people to examine a rock that apparently makes people look like this. You should see the teal deer."

"Creepier than you?" Ben asked.

Beat.

"Sorry."

"Creepier," Tony confirmed, closing his eyes. "Hasn't been a cure found so far."

Ender came in with his phone in hand not much later. "I think we need to forcibly get Karla and Peter mutual restraining orders," he said. "Since I can't talk to Peter and Karla doesn't seem inclined to listen to reason."

Ben frowned. "What are they doing to each other now?"

"There's trouble on the island, and Karla decided to check in on him," Ender said, holding his phone up in front of Ben and clicking play.

Ben sighed. "You might be right. Tony called too. Things...aren't good."

Ender switched the phone off and pulled it back. "'Things aren't good' tends to describe the situation most of our friends are in at any point in time," he said. "But what did Tony have to say?"

"That he has a tail," Ben said, holding out the photo Tony had transmitted to him.

Ender frowned. "Do we have any idea what caused that?"

"He said something about a rock that turns people into aliens," Ben said. "Do you have any experience with that?"

"I've only known one species of alien in my own home dimension, and they never did anything of the kind," Ender said, glancing back at him. "I haven't read about anything quite like it in any of Karla's books so far, either."

"Sithspit," Ben cursed. "It doesn't sound familiar to me either."

"How did he sound?" Ender asked, pausing for a moment, then sliding into the chair next to Ben's.

"Not great," Ben said quietly. "He told me that if we didn't hear from people in a few days we probably wouldn't."
