The Entrance to the Super Secret Skywalker Diamond Mine [evening]

Ben really wished he had a cigarette, even if it wouldn't stay lit under the rain cloud that seemed to have followed him around for most of the day.

It had certain been a busy day, with seeing Ender, catching up with Seifer and totally doing Things with Tony's ex...granted, there had been an exchange of goods for, ahem, services rendered (and not that many services, but NO ONE NEEDED TO KNOW THAT), but that was hardly the point!

The point was the love of his life was trying ties for his wedding TOMORROW!

Ben pulled out a bottle of Everclear--the drink of PAIN--and stared broodily into the distance.

[OOC: Expecting one but open!]

Ben was not going to explain that to her, thanks.

"I think the better question is why did they send you away?"

Beat.

"And who was trying to have you killed to keep the secret!"

Or something.

[glacial_queen]

"I can't believe it!" Karla declared. "The Mother Superior swore my parents had died! You mean she lied to me?"

People did that Karla. Especially in regards to Skywalkers and for lots of cash.

"You think this is why an assassin is after me? Why all the nuns I grew up with are dead?"

Tears sprang to her eyes. Possibly with a little help from a bottle of eyedrops while the camera was focused on Ben.

"Probably," Ben said philosophically. "It happens around Skywalkers a lot."

[glacial_queen]

"But...why?" Karla asked. She was ignorant of what her family was REALLY like. "Why would people want to kill us?"

[momslilassassin]

"We're rich and powerful," Ben replied.

And kind of shady.

"People are jealous."

[glacial_queen]

"Rich? And powerful?" Karla asked, gasping once again. Really, between that and widening her eyes appropriately, the writers had no idea how to express shock and surprise. "In all my wildest dreams of suddenly not being an orphan any more, to find a family to love and cherish me forever more, I had never imagined this!"

About that love and cherish thing...

"You must come to the weddings tomorrow," Ben decided. "My--our cousin Jaina Solo is marrying Howard Stark. And some other people are getting married too."

His eyes showed Deep Sorrow.

That Deep Sorrow woke an anguish in Karla's own soul. The anguish of family!

"Who else?" she asked, reaching for his hand. "Something about your noble bearing makes me think that there's more!"

"An old boyfriend," Ben admitted as tinkly music the director mistakenly believed was wistful played in the background.

"You love him?" Karla asked, trying to look askance at the music. "What happened?"

What fool could possibly give up her beloved brother?

"Taiwanese hookers," Ben said before bursting into tears.

[glacial_queen]

"Please, Ben, you mustn't cry!" Karla said, tears of sympathy welling up in her eyes, too, because that bastard wasn't going to screw her out of an Emmy, dammit so touched was she by her darling brother's plight. "Did he betray you with...women of the evening?!"

Gasp!

"Other way around," Ben sniffled. "But I didn't hire them! Stark set me up!"

[glacial_queen]

"Who is Stark?" Karla demanded. "And why would he--or she!--do such a thing?!"

Though had Ben just kept it in his pants even in the face of Tawainese hookers...but that was a logical leap no one expected of the audience.

"He's the jerk Ender's marrying tomorrow," Ben said.

[glacial_queen]

Karla gasped again. There should be a drinking game out of that. "That--that--that fiend! Did he truly set you up to steal the man you loved?"

"Yes!" Ben said as dramatic music played.

[glacial_queen]

"Well...you must do something!" Karla said, leaping to her feet. What injury? "You mustn't let him win! Not when the love of your life is on the line!"

"I have a plan," Ben assured her.

Just as soon as the writers came up with one.

[glacial_queen]

Karla had already decided she would go and talk to this Ender person. Surely he would understand just how wrong he was to marry another!

That couldn't go poorly at all!

"Now that you have found me," she said, suddenly remembering her wound and collapsing back to the ground, "what is going to happen to me?"

"We'll find you a place to stay," Ben decided. "Go to the hotel and charge the suite to the Skywalkers."

[glacial_queen]

"Will...will I be safe?" Karla asked tentatively.

[momslilassassin]

"Would you prefer it if I stayed with you?" Ben offered.
