Ben had been to some stupidly decadent restaurants (being the son of Luke Skywalker had its privileges), but this one blew even those most ridiculous on Coruscant out of the water.

"This is barvy," he muttered to Ender as their waiter led them to their table. "Look at all of the people here. And...other beings...of course."

Ben hadn't been knocked so completely off-stride in years.

"That sounds astral," Ben said. "Putting her into the water, too? Experiencing a bit of weightlessness?"

"Teach her how to swim," Ender said, a faint smile appearing on his face. "Now there's a Wiggin family tradition."

Ben smiled at him, eyes sparkling. "I know."

"We should do it together," Ender said, smiling slightly. "Take her out into the lake. Or maybe we should start in the pool..."

"The pool," Ben said. "That's where we started, after all..."

"I don't think we can sneak into the dorms, love," Ender said fondly. "But at the gym, maybe."

Ben laughed, blushing. "You know, sometimes I forget we're still not fifteen."

Ender laughed softly. "We were early bloomers," he said, "But I think fifteen would've been a little young for us to be parents."

"I think that was the year I hid from the King, so...yeah, probably," Ben admitted.

"And a year before I ran out on Val," Ender said.

Ben ran his foot along Ender's leg. "We had some growing up to do, no matter how old we felt at the time."

"Growing up isn't a straight line," Ender said quietly. "It's many things at once, all going at different speeds."

"And coming to realize that it's not exactly something you stop trying to get to," Ben said. "We have a baby and I still don't feel that grown up."

Ender smiled. "Of course," he said, "Now I feel as if it'll come with time regardless of what I do, and I should stop worrying about it."

Ben laughed. "Yeah, me too. No doubt we'll look back at this in ten years and marvel at how young we were now."

"And we'll consider ourselves younger still when we're twenty years older," Ender said, "And so time goes on."

"It's like you teach a class on philosophy or something," Ben teased.

"Do I teach the class?" Ender asked. "Or does the class teach me?"

Ben burst out laughing. "I married such a nerd."

[endsthegame]

"You'll learn to cope with my nerdiness, as I cope with your ridiculousness," Ender said loftily. "Such is the way of things."

Ben laughed again. "It's why we work," he agreed.

"That, and any number of other stellar qualities on our parts," Ender said, nudging him with a foot.

Ben laughed. "We are extremely smart and good looking," he agreed.

"Humans of the best stock," Ender deadpanned.

"I'm sure it was exactly what our parents planned," Ben deadpanned.
