Coruscant, GFFA [Wednesday night, Fandom time]

After dropping their bags off at the Skywalker apartment, Ben insisted that Ender and Karla experience some of the sights and sounds (and smells, sorry to say) of Coruscant, and practically dragged them down to the Coruscant University sector and into the Haunch of Nerf, one of the stranger cantinas on the planet.

"I'd recommend the nerf," Ben said, eyes twinkling over his glass of lum. He rarely drank, but lum tasted like home and made him feel more like an adult. Tonight he decided he needed both.

"I like sweet," Karla said, nodding. "What else should I try? I'm hungry."

"The dustcrepes are a Tatooine specialty," Ben said, pointing them out. "Dad really likes them."

"Dustcrepes?" Karla asked, eyebrow raised. "Do I even want to know what's on them?"

...Not that that would stop her from ordering any, mind.

"Meat," Ben said. "Probably better to just not ask for specifics. They're good."

"Just 'meat,' huh? You're right, I don't think I want to know. Still, when in Askavi..." She looked down eagerly at the menu and then glanced back up at Ben. "Does gold have any value here?" she asked, suddenly uncertain.

"We generally use credits," Ben said, giving her a confused look. "Why?"

"Paying for dinner," Karla said, like it was supposed to be obvious. "Usually works best if one has the local currency. I don't wash dishes unless I've mouthed off enough to earn it."

That made sense if one spoke Karla.

Ben waved his hand dismissively. "I invited you home, I pay for dinner. Don't worry about it."

"You've seen me eat, right?" Karla asked, impish. "I mean, just so we're clear."

"You've seen me eat too," Ben said with a grin. "Trust me, Dad's account can handle it."

"I've only ever seen you eat ice cream," Karla teased. "I don't know if they serve that here. And for all I know, it goes against Jedi custom to eat real food. All I have are you and Tahiri's examples to go by."

"We eat everything," Ben said, "because you can't afford to give offense at a state dinner if you've just been served something wiggly and alive." He pointed at the menu. "So avoid this dish unless you're into that."

Karla was adventurous, especially when it came to food, but anything that was described as both 'wiggly' and 'alive' was a bit beyond her. "I'll take your word for it," she said quickly, "and hope there are no state dinners scheduled for our trip."

Ben laughed. "Not for us, anyway. I think Dad had one tonight he needed to make an appearance at."

"So you've decided not to take me up on that offer of alliance?" Karla asked, slanting him a grin. "I thought I painted a most tempting picture of what state functions between your people and mine would look like."

Ben snickered. "Well, you can offer terms to Dad later if you'd like."

[glacial_queen]

"Do you think I'd have to go all the way into detailing trade specifics?" Karla asked. "Or could I probably stop at sneaking out of dinners to take turns on the landspeeder?"

"He'd love you for that second one," Ben said with a grin. "He's pretty much the hottest hand on a stick in the galaxy."

Not dirty.

"I'll bring it up before you start flashing those holos around," Karla laughed. "Just to be safe."

"See? I'm an excellent negotiator myself," he teased.

"Thank you, Ambassador Skywalker," Karla said, laughing into her lum. "Not that I ever doubted you in the least."

"Oh, Jedi Skywalker is fine," Ben said, waving a hand and ignoring how that name got the attention of the couple sitting near them.

"Jedi Knight Skywalker, I'm sure," Karla said, also ignoring the couple at the other table. There was something almost...comfortable?...about talking to or about names that carried recognition.

...Unlike in Syria, of course.

Ben smirked. "Nope, just Jedi. I think it sounds kind of dumb, but no one ever asked me."

"Because in the duration of our acquaintance, you've always been so reticent about expressing your opinion until asked," Karla smirked.
