Aboard the Jade Shadow [Tuesday, Fandom time]

Ben was grabbing a quick snack as he waited in the galley for his father to finish docking the ship on the first human-majority planet they'd seen in months and taking the chance to catch up on more reading about the Aing-Tii Monks. As soon as they restocked their supplies and checked for physical mail (Ben hoped that Tony's package would catch up with them here), they'd be heading into Aing-Tii space, which was a challenging enough flight that Luke Kriffing Skywalker looked slightly apprehensive about it.

Ben stopped being nervous by remembering that if Jacen had been able to do it, Luke would be able to do it better.

...it had never been said that Ben could not be very petty if the occasion called for it.

"Hellooooo?" Tony said from the computer screen.

He was in his lab rather than the campfire like normal people.

"Tony," Ender greeted, putting the navy sweater down on the bed for the moment. "What's up?"

Okay, so this was probably going to be a conference call...

"Hey, Tony," Ben added, shifting the sweater onto his lap so he could move closer to the computer. "Did something explode?"

Tony looked around the area not shown on the image. "I think we can safely say no. But we're in the past at least. Again."

Ender wasn't sure whether to be reassured by that look or not, Tony.

He was also not so sure he was getting his sweater back, at this rate. "Which era?" he asked. "Not more vikings, I take it."

"Dinosaurs?" Ben asked eagerly.

"Cowboys." Which was even better.

Ender wasn't rolling his eyes, thank you.

There was just the hint of it. "19th century?"

Ben reached out to poke him in the shoulder. "Maybe the cowboys are riding on the dinosaurs, like the witches on Dathomir with the rancors."

Because that made sense.

Tony looked from Ben, to Ender. Could someone make the words make sense? MAKE SENSE.

"...sure."

"Rancors are big, angry lizard-type creatures, a little smaller than your average T-Rex," Ender explained, reaching out to prod Ben in the ribs. "The witches of Dathomir domesticate them, in a way."

Ben poked Ender again. "Stop it," he said, conveniently forgetting how he'd started it. "They ride them like really terrifying horses."

"And this is why I don't go near horses or dinosaurs," Tony replied slowly.

"Ben nearly got me eaten by some when we visited Dathomir," Ender said, conversationally, because that was a casual topic. "And don't make me clobber you, Skywalker."

"You wish, Wiggin," Ben retorted. "Also you need to learn to run faster."

"Oh, is that why you're friends with me? Picking the slow one for the next time you're chased by alien dinosaurs?" Tony asked dryly.

"We figure with the Iron Man armor, you'll be hard to chew, and should buy us at least a few seconds," Ender agreed, stone-faced.

"Plus you might turn fat again," Ben added, nodding.

"I regret sending you that picture," Tony replied sulkily. "And the armor could totally stand up to a dinosaur attack. They don't have the jaw strength to crack it."

"Rancors might," Ender said, shooting Ben a questioning look. "A lot of people use protective armor around here."

Ben nodded thoughtfully. "It's possible. I don't think they've had many problems chewing through old Stormtrooper armor. We could try some experiments..."

"Is that the stuff they wear at the police station?" TONY HAD DISDAIN FOR IT, BEN. DEAL.

"I think so," Ender said. "Don't get snobbish on us, Stark."

"Besides, that stuff is like a hundred years out of date," Ben replied. "That's my grandfather's era."

"It's bad," Tony said definitively. Because he had opinions on armor. Opinions.

"You guys better have something more effective there. If you're going to be chased by alien dinosaurs some more. Because I don't share my armor."
