Ben and Ender were still hosting houseguests, and since the speeder hadn't been destroyed the day before, it meant it was time for Cultural Opportunities In Town!

...or Twi'leks dancing around poles.

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to.

There was plenty to see in Theed before then, of course, as it would be kind of tacky to watching dancing girls at lunch. Or so Ben assumed.

Ben fought the impulse to facepalm. He was going to have to talk to Karla. "I'm not going to poison you," he said flatly.

"Good," Topher said, relieved. "'Cause that would suck. If you did."

And totally no other reason at all. Nope.

"Jedi don't poison people," Ben said. "My concern is Ender: if you say you're not going to hurt him, I believe you."

"Cool," Topher said. "I really won't. Seriously, man."

Which meant that now he had only Karla to worry about, then. That was an improvement! Kind of!

"Just, yeah. Try not to say anything to get Peter in trouble? Or... get him mad at me, or anything?"

Ben's lips quirked up in a wry smile. "Hurting Peter hurts Ender, even if neither of them would admit to it," he said, "and I'm not in the habit of hurting Ender. I'm good at keeping secrets, Topher. I'll keep yours."

"Thanks," Topher said gratefully. "It's just. You know. There'd be all this drama and stuff. So. Better to avoid that."

Or he would lose one of the two people whose friendship he valued the most. One of those things.

Ben smiled again: he knew what Topher was really trying to avoid.

"I'm not in the habit of confiding in Peter," he said.

"Cool." A beat. "I mean, not that he can't be trusted! 'Cause, you know, he totally can. I just mean, like. In this particular instance."

Ben would just keep his own council on the relative trustworthiness of Peter.

"Oh, exactly, right," he agreed. Sort of.

It was for the best, really.

"Yeah." Topher shifted. "So! Good that that's, uh, cleared up." A beat. "Portal time?"

"Portal time," Ben agreed. "Safe trip. I'll see you back in Fandom."

If he ever left Naboo again....

"See you," Topher agreed. Then, teasingly: "You guys can get back to your, uh, special time."

Ben wrinkled his nose at him. "I'm making sure you're through the portal for that."

"And Tony," Topher suggested. "I think he wants to see that even less."

Unless Ben was secretly a Twi'lek girl.

"Tony knows how to knock," Ben teased.

"Now he does."

"I'm glad this vacation proved to be educational, too, then," Ben added.

"Manners and alien anatomy," Topher summed up. "I feel enlightened."

"And driving," Ben said.

But not fashion. That poncho was probably illegal in seven systems.

"And skin care," Topher lamented with a sigh, eyeing his sunburnt hands.

"And skin care," Ben said with a grin. "Bacta patches work on sunburn too. You just look kind of stupid with it on."

"Yeah, I'm gonna pass," Topher decided. Because then he would have bacta patches all over his face. Which would be terrible. Then he grinned, eyed Ben, and added, "But you should totally put one on your nose."

For safety.

"Sexy," Ben commented dryly.
