Ender's Swingin' Bachelor Pad, Naboo [Wednesday, Fandom time]

The nice thing about how time worked on Naboo was that even a few days away from Fandom meant that Ender and Ben had gotten almost a week to themselves to unwind.

Now the fridge was restocked, the rooms were prepared and the droid Ben had made was bustling industriously around getting rid of dust bunnies.

Ben and Ender were ready for their Fandom (and other universes!) invasion.

"Thank you," Warren replied, working his way back up to something that was maybe a subdued sort of smile. "And you both, too. Like I said... you've earned it. You already know responsibility? Now it's my turn to get a feel for it."

You didn't learn responsibility first-hand by hiding in an expensive condo for ten years.

"As long as you keep appreciating the people around you," Ender said, "and they return the favor-- if you do it together-- I think you'll be okay."

It wasn't a situation he had a terribly large amount of personal experience with. The closest thing to... well, a Karla, or perhaps a Warren... he'd had back then had turned his back on him as soon as the school forced a change of allegiance on him.

"I had some milk, checked my email, and hung out by the water," Ender said wryly. "I think Karla stomped."

"Trust me, I'm learning a whole new appreciation for the people around me," Warren replied. "The other boyos are readying themselves for... similar positions, though their Queens aren't going to have anything quite like Glacia to worry about. At least in the getting there, I know they have my back, like I've got theirs. That has to count for something."

"I bought them here!" Ben said proudly. "I can show you where."

Why would you do that, Ben?

Though maybe Ender's previous assessment hadn't been completely true. Back when they'd gone up against the Formics-- they'd been loyal to him. Completely.

Then again, that wasn't quite the same thing as having people you could fall back on as peers.

"It does count for something," he said. "The best advice I can give you is to keep fostering those friendships."

"She's a Twi'lek," Ben explained, sitting down. "She's very bendy."

Warren probably figured that out on his own, Ben.

"She might have been acting out being a rancor," Ben said dryly.

Warren considered this for... like two seconds. And then the thought crossed his mind that maybe he could send one anonymously to his father or something, and...

"Do it."

"I didn't have any plans to the contrary," Warren decided, smiling faintly. "Those and more, if I can at all manage it."

"I don't think she gnawed on anything of yours, if you're worried," Ender said.

"And is the bendiness a cultural thing, too?"

It was a totally legitimate question, okay?

"You might even be able to mend fences with whoever Karla manages to offend at any time," Ender added, sounding gently fond and amused. "Good practice."

"She might have gnawed on an action figure of me instead," Ben replied. "She bought a couple."

"We'll look in Theed before the cultural dancing," Ben said, then thought of taking vases into the Clinging Mynock.

"...maybe after."

"Maybe tomorrow," Warren countered, after a moment spent trying to picture them dragging hideous vases around Naboo while drunk.

While drunk, and still totally bewildered about that whole space thing.

"I'm just hoping she doesn't plan to butt heads with any more giant magical tigers, honestly. I'm pretty sure I can smooth things out with most of the human-shaped people she decides to tangle with, but I have plenty of meat on me, and I don't know if I can talk reason faster than an Arcerian cat can pounce."

On the plus side, there'd be some chance for morbid hilarity once the feline inevitably chokes on the equivalent of a giant chicken bone?

"Well, this is my Ben, so you have to be the rancor."

Okay, that bow was going to get him collared long enough to receive another kiss--one that hopefully made him think twice about his decision to flutter off and explore.

Ahahahaha, okay, no it probably didn't. Space. But Karla could try.

"Sounds like a plan," she said. "I'll see what the boyos have available for food."

"I'll just have to be sneaky about stealing it, then!" Because in a house with the four of them, Ben would be completely flummoxed when it came to figuring out who'd made heavy inroads into the ice cream supplies.

"And in the guest rooms and each bathroom, I saw," Karla added, laughing. "How bright did Ben get before you started leaving it everywhere?"

"Well... you just let me know what things are, and I'll assemble the picnic food," Warren replied, his lips still pursed a little after that kiss. "That's part of the whole delicious lunches deal, after all."

It was also a part of damage control. Funny, that.

"Bah! Details!" Karla waved off Ben's pesky 'logical facts.' "It was true love for him and now you swan off with some Ender-come-lately."

Which was exactly 0% true at all.

It was like he'd gone into their relationship knowing about her inability to make food edible!

"Sure sure," she said with a low chuckle. "Now fly if you're going to. Otherwise I'll change my mind about letting you go anywhere and tackle you."

Warren chuckled, leaning in for one more kiss, and then stretched his wings out to their full span.

"You tackle me right now, and you'll be coming along for the flight," he informed her. And then with a crouch and a leap, he was circling overhead. "Which can't possibly be that bad, can it?"

"Not at all," Karla said, "but you'd have better luck convincing after I've annoyed Ben and Ender for a little while."

She blew him a kiss and added, "Though I did bring my wings along, so we can fly together on our way to the picnic, instead of you having to carry me."

He could do that on their way back!
