It was old habit that led Ben to sit on asking Ender "what the hell was that?" about their meeting with Cade, their frankly terrifying and surly grandson, what the hell what the hell what the hell, until they were tucked into bed together.

"Soo..." he began. "What the hell was that?"

"I'm glad we're back here," Ender said. "Together."

Ben frowned slightly. "You didn't think I was going to stay in Fandom, did you?"

"Of course not," Ender said, flicking him in the thigh. "I'm just tired, and trying to tell you I'm glad to be home..."

"I'm glad to be home too," Ben murmured. "It was weird to be in Fandom and not in our room there."

"The hotel room doesn't feel as homey, does it?" Ender asked wryly.

"Not even a little bit," Ben said. "Too sterile. I might not be able to read walls like Karla can, but that place didn't have any memories of us in it."

Ender nodded. He blew out a breath. "I'm not sure if after Shakespeare, we'll stay anywhere long enough to make it ours," he admitted.

Ben nuzzled his neck. "Then we'll make home in the ship we use to get there."

He paused, smiling. "Assuming you weren't going to call Admiral Morgan to pick us back up..."

Ender chuckled softly. "No," he murmured, "But it might be a while before private ships become a thing. Of course... we will be speeding through history."

"This is true," Ben said. "We'll save up our pennies and get something small." He smiled. "It's how I grew up, really. The Shadow and the Falcon were more home than the place on Coruscant ever was."

"I know," Ender said. "That's why I'm considering that as an option. I had just been planning to get on whatever ship happened to be leaving whatever planet I'm on..."

"And if there's not a ship available immediately?" Ben asked.

"I'd wait," Ender said. He kissed Ben (purely because he suddenly wanted to) and added, "But we don't have to penny-pinch if we get around to buying something. I think."

"Oh yeah?"

Ben was absolutely terrible at money--he'd never grown up thinking about it and he was friends with Tony Stark and Warren Worthington.

"My investments are still paying out well," Ender said. "I've started getting statements from your universe again since the portal flipped on..."

He paused.

"I'm not sure how much I have," he admitted, "But considering the amount of time we'll spend at relative speeds... I'm probably only going to get more money."

"Well, if we get ourselves a Star Destroyer too, Booster's going to get jealous," Ben said, smiling.

Ender snorted softly. "What use would we have for a Star Destroyer?"

"What use does Booster have for it either?" Ben countered. "We could turn it into a casino, too, I guess..."

"How about we stick with something that houses you, me, Val," Ender said, poking him in the arms, "And maybe some tinier people."

"And make sure none of them get tattoos," Ben declared.

"Lock them aboard the ship," Ender said sagely.

"Without the explosives this time, right?" Ben said teasingly.

"Yes," Ender said, giving him a Look.

Ben smiled a little sheepishly at him. "In my defense, I was fairly barvy at the time?"

"I think 'fairly' is not the right word here," Ender said dryly. "Between the territorial pissings, the accusing me and Rolund of wanting to do it, and the trying to weld him in with explosives..."
