It was old habit that led Ben to sit on asking Ender "what the hell was that?" about their meeting with Cade, their frankly terrifying and surly grandson, what the hell what the hell what the hell, until they were tucked into bed together.

"Soo..." he began. "What the hell was that?"

"Love you too," Ender whispered back, cupping Ben's face and kissing him thoroughly.

"I needed this," Ben murmured, pulling Ender on top of him--needing the closeness. "Thank you."

"Any time," Ender said, running his fingers over Ben's chest.

Ben shivered slightly. "Definitely something to be said about skin against skin--"

Ender smiled and let his hand trail down until his fingers were sliding along Ben's thighs. "Definitely," he said. "What do you need?"

Since Ben seemed to need something right now.

"Reassurance," Ben admitted softly, "though I'm guessing that's not what you meant."

"Reassurance works," Ender said, kissing him again and sliding his hand back up Ben's chest. "Hey." Another kiss. "You'll make a great father some day."

Ben smiled against Ender's mouth. "Thank you," he whispered. "You will too."

Ender smiled back, pressing a kiss against Ben's nose. "You have so much love to hand out," he said.

"You really think so?" Ben murmured.

"I do," Ender said, smiling down at him. "Life happens. We can't defend these hypothetical future children from everything. But whatever happens won't be for want of you loving them harder."

"If I do one thing right in my life, I want that to be it," Ben replied a little fiercely.

Ender brushed some hair away from Ben's face. He nodded quietly.

Ben kissed him. A lot.

It was such a relief knowing why Ender understood that.

Ender kissed him back, happy to go along with it. He ran his fingers along Ben's arms soothingly.

Ben rocked a little into him, needing more contact.

Ender sighed, rocking back slowly. He pressed a kiss to Ben's jaw, and then another one.

He figured they'd keep it simple tonight; Ben didn't seem to be in the kind of mood where he'd put up with Ender slipping downwards or otherwise moving away too much.

Ben just wanted closeness for as long as possible, so the pace suited him just fine. He tilted his head up a bit so Ender could reach more of his neck because that had felt ridiculously good.

Ender nipped down his neck slowly, making sure to give every patch of skin a little attention.

Ben sighed softly, running his fingers along Ender's spine. "Nice--"

"That's the idea," Ender murmured against his neck.

He hovered halfway there, deciding not to go any lower. Instead he pressed his mouth to one of the marks he'd left and paid it some extra attention while his hand slid down between Ben's legs.

Ben let out a little moan. "Hi there," he whispered, scratching his fingers down Ender's back.

"Hi," Ender murmured, kissing just below his jaw. "Love you."

It was a reaffirmation kind of night.

"Love you more," Ben whispered, sliding his hands around Ender and hugging him tight.

"Competitive," Ender whispered affectionately, moving his hand (but not too fast).
