Ben, Ender & Val's hotel room [Sunday afternoon]

Ben stared at his daughter, sitting inside the suitcase he was trying to pack.

"Ice cream," she told him, narrowing her eyes.

"Packing first," Ben replied, crossing his arms.

"ICE CREAM!"

"Ow," Ben said, holding his hands over his ears.

Ben sat down on the floor. "Because, for some humans, it's a way to express physical affection," he said. "Like a hug, but better." He smiled up at Ender. "Or when we knock our foreheads together."

"Looks weird," Val complained, giving him a Very Serious big-eyed look to go with it.

She was trying to comprehend. And probably picking up more words than Ben might think.

"Maybe," Ben agreed, "but we like it. And remember, there's going to be a lot of stuff to see in the different galaxies that might look weird, but we don't judge it, right?"

"Whyyy?"

Ender sighed. "She's a Wiggin child all right." He touched Val's little head. "Though I don't think she quite gets the explanation - or the question - yet."

"True enough," Ben said. "I kiss your dad because it makes my stomach feel fizzy, in a good way."

"Weird," Val mumbled.

Into Ender's leg.

"Someone's definitely ready for a nap."

"It's been a long morning," Ben agreed, scooping her up. "Nap time for little Skywalkers."

"Tiny children to bed," Ender agreed, smiling and shaking his head. "We'll bring you back some ice cream, sweetheart."

Val grumbled a bit but buried her face into Ben's neck, eyes already closed.

Ben smiled at Ender. "Back in a sec."

"All right," Ender said, shaking his head.

He walked back and sat down on his bed.

Ben returned a few minutes later, leaned in and kissed Ender. "This time without interruptions," he murmured.

Ender smiled at him. "We could put off ice cream until she's awake again," he said softly. "Our portal doesn't leave until tonight."

"She was really looking forward to it," Ben mused.

"I think she'll hate us forever if we don't wait," Ender said, "Or at least until her next nap."

Ben laughed. "True enough. "Now what should we do instead?"

"All the packing is done and the girlchild is asleep," Ender said, running his hands over Ben's arms. "Maybe we can get some of that illegal-by-Val's-law kissing in."

"You have the best ideas," Ben said, straddling Ender's legs and kissing with intent.

Ender smiled into the kiss, sliding his arms around Ben's neck as he kissed back firmly.

"Hello, kreetle," Ben said, making himself more comfortable. "Missed you."

"I've been right here," Ender said fondly, leaning back onto the bed.

"In a decidedly PG way," Ben said, nipping at the underside of Ender's jaw.

Ender laughed softly. "If you've got something you need to get off your chest," he said, "I'm willing to bump this up to PG-13."

He slid his hands through Ben's hair, then down over his back.

"Sweet-talker," Ben teased, grinning at him. "So that's shirtless, then?"

"I think it means you're allowed one expletive," Ender teased, as he slid his hands under Ben's shirt.

Ben's eyes sparkled at him. "I'll save it until the end, then," he promised.
