Corellian Sector, Coruscant [Thursday late afternoon]

Ben, mindful that the last time he'd been in the Corellian Sector he'd been a member of GAG and kicking down doors looking for terrorists, put a bright smile on his face, prayed no one recognized him, and led Karla and Ender around.

"This is where you can find really astral food," he said enthusiastically, because this was Ben and food was pretty much top on his list of judging how good a place was, just below "are they shooting at me?" "There's also neat stuff to look at and almost everyone here speaks Basic. You might run into some Selonians or Drall, but Corellia itself is mostly human."

"Ooh, new cuisine?"

Food ranked slightly higher on Karla's list, but mostly because she wasn't in shootouts often enough for that to rank. "How do you tell Corellian from, say, Tatooine dustcrepes? Do they use something more specific than 'meat'?"

Ben grinned and nodded. "They use a lot of nerf," he said, "and like spices a lot." He lowered his voice. "Aunt Leia makes really terrible spiceloaf, but she tries. We all pretend to like it."

"Is she planning on making spiceloaf while we're here?" Karla asked, looking a little dubious. "Maybe she needs to improve her--oh! oh!" Someone had been struck by a new thought. "Maybe I could get ahold of some recipes and some of your spices! I could send them to Mrs. Beale!"

And gain entry back to the kitchen, bwahaha.

Ben shot her a quick look. "Is she still mad?"

"I never said she was mad," Karla protested. Guiltily. While nodding.

Ben laughed. "What did you do?"

"Helped?"

"Did anything catch on fire?" he teased.

"The fire was contained inside the stove!"

Ben shoulders shook with laughter. "Karla!"

"It wasn't my fault!" Except for how it sorta had been. "I thought that by making the oven hotter, the food would cook faster! And it did!"

Going from 'raw' to 'charbroiled' in just under ten minutes.

"But then there was this book and, I swear, I only looked away for a minute!"

"No wonder she's mad!" Ben said when he could finally gasp out a sentence.

"Well, I think she's being unreasonable," Karla sulked.

"I'm sure we can find something to bribe her with here," Ben assured her.

"It isn't bribery," Karla sniffed. "It's simply...gift-giving with an added benefit."

"So Corellia was... a colony?" Ender inquired.

Seriously, boy, you needed to stop with the geekery.

"Yes, but it's a weird story," Ben said.

This was not going to help with the geekery.

"About a million years ago, an ancient species designed the Corellian system, moved the planets into place, populated it with humans, Selonians and Drall, the whole deal."

... Ender blinked.

"You're going to have to run that one past me."

Ben smiled. "From what I've been told, Centerpoint Station's original purpose, the reason it had so much firepower, was to pull planets into orbit. We don't know why they decided to make themselves a perfect solar system--it's incredibly rare to find one that has four planets suitable for life--but there it is." He paused, looking guilty for just a split second. "We'll see what happens now that Centerpoint is gone."

"Had it been acting as a gravity well all this time?" Ender asked, frowning in thought.

"I'm not sure," Ben said, before going into an overly long and dorky which he would understand but is way beyond his mun explanation of just how Centerpoint used to work.

Ender listened attentively, asking the right questions in the right spots.

He was a dork like that.

"I think it'd probably make more sense if you could see it," Ben admitted, "but Corellia's still pretty...touchy...about visitors from Coruscant. Especially ones named Skywalker."

"Somehow," Ender said, amused, "I don't think that's limited to just Corellia."

"We tend to leave an impression," Ben admitted.
