Corellian Sector, Coruscant [Thursday late afternoon]

Ben, mindful that the last time he'd been in the Corellian Sector he'd been a member of GAG and kicking down doors looking for terrorists, put a bright smile on his face, prayed no one recognized him, and led Karla and Ender around.

"This is where you can find really astral food," he said enthusiastically, because this was Ben and food was pretty much top on his list of judging how good a place was, just below "are they shooting at me?" "There's also neat stuff to look at and almost everyone here speaks Basic. You might run into some Selonians or Drall, but Corellia itself is mostly human."

"It isn't bribery," Karla sniffed. "It's simply...gift-giving with an added benefit."

"Assuming it gets you that benefit," Ben said. "Otherwise it's just a gift."

[glacial_queen]

"As long as she stops being mad, I guess it'd okay," Karla said. "Though we found this recipe I really wanted to try. It's for a casserole and it sounded so tasty. And Mrs. Beale says that it's almost impossible to ruin a casserole."

She'd then added that if there was a way, Karla and Jaenelle would find it, but Karla wasn't going to repeat that part.

Ben gave her a smirky look. "Almost?" he repeated.

"She might have mentioned an instance or two where a casserole could be messed up," Karla said evasively. "Which is why it's all the more important I get an opportunity to prove her wrong! Then she'll see."

"Get holos," Ben said with a laugh.

[glacial_queen]

Karla stuck her tongue out at him. "I will, just you watch," she sniffed. "And when I do, not only will you get holos, but a big plate of your own, so you can eat it and realize that I really can cook!"

So there, Ben. So there.

"Oh, I can eat anything," Ben said unwisely.

"We'll just see about that," Karla sniffed crossing her arms.

Wait, no. That didn't come out right at all.

"You'll eat it and like it and ask for more," she amended.

"Do I have to be telling the truth?" Ben said, trying to dodge out of hitting distance.

She could still throw stuff.

"You would be, brat!" Karla said, swatting at him.

On the plus side, this conversation was probably doing great things for Ben escaping recognition. Unless GAG agents routinely paused in their investigations to tease and harass their friends.

Ben burst out laughing, for once behaving like a normal teenager and not Son of Skywalker or whatever else he was supposed to be.

"I'm not a brat!"

"Ha!" Karla scoffed, tossing her ponytail over her shoulder. "Biggest brat I ever met in my life! Or maybe just the brat with the biggest head."

There were times when it was good to just be a kid, instead of a Queen or a Jedi Knight or a destined whatever.

Ben reached out to put her in a headlock. "Take that back!"

"Never!" Karla squealed before trying to nip him on the arm. Hey, if he was going to put his limbs in reach of her teeth, he deserved what he got. "You can't make me renounce the truth!"

"Ow!" Ben said, twisting out of the way. "Are you five?"

[glacial_queen]

"Me, five? You put me in a headlock! Was I just supposed to give up? Besides, I barely even got you." Karla pointed at his arm. "I didn't even break the skin."

"Were you trying to?" he asked.

[glacial_queen]

"For a headlock? Are you kidding?" Karla gave him a look. "That wouldn't have been fun at all. Besides, you might have bled on my shirt."

"Ah, the real reason," he teased. "And here I was going to suggest you look into Corellian attire, too."

[glacial_queen]

"I happen to like this shirt, thanks much," Karla said, snorting. "And your blood would intentionally stain it, just to be contrary."

Because blood was usually so easy to get out or something?

"What about Corellian attire were you going to show me, anyway?" Not that she was interested. Really.

Ben gestured toward a dress shop. "It's not as crazy as what the folk from Naboo wear," he said, "but it's not exactly Fandom-wear either."

Karla, as much as she hated clothing shopping, still liked pretty things. And it was different, looking at clothing from another world. "I like it," she said, smiling into the window. "Can we go inside?"

"Of course," Ben said. "But not for too long. Shopping gives me hives."

[glacial_queen]

Karla gave him another look. "Have you ever seen me shop for a long time? I'm usually the one saying that we've already found something nice, can't we go yet?"

How Emma hadn't murdered her yet was a mystery. Especially after their trip to New York for Homecoming.
