Room 424 [afternoon]

After Ben's midterm, he returned to his room and flopped on the bed. It'd been a few days since he'd gotten in some quality staring-at-the-ceiling time.

The essay he'd written had brought back all of the emotions and memories of the horrible day Lekauf died (and Gejjen, yes, but that didn't seem quite as painful), and now he couldn't get the images of his friend out of his head.

He wanted his family. He couldn't believe he was actually looking forward to seeing his mom and dad.

Which, of course, was when the comlink buzzed.

"Jacen?" Ben said, trying to conceal his surprise when his cousin's face came into focus.

Jacen nodded back curtly. "I wanted you to get ready for my arrival this weekend," he said.

Ben stared. "But I thought Mom and Dad were coming," he finally replied.

"If you want to explain why you failed to mention exactly who is teaching Ethics, by all means," Jacen said, sounding a little aggravated. "I just thought I was saving you some problems by coming instead. I am a very busy man now. Cal Omas has been arrested--Niathal and I are temporarily in charge of the GA until elections are held. If you'd rather no one come at all, I'm sure that can be arranged."

"But Mom..." Ben stammered quietly.

"I intercepted their invitation," Jacen said flatly. "I thought I was helping you. But you're clearly not that grateful."

"No, I am," Ben said quickly. "I just haven't seen them since Vulpter."

Jacen arched up an eyebrow. "You can't think that's a coincidence."

Ben's stomach plummeted. "I suppose not," he said to the floor. "See you in a few days, Jacen."

"Colonel," Jacen corrected before ending the transmission.

"Great," Ben sighed, curling up into a ball.
