It had taken a few days to break free of the Kathol Rift, but the minute the ship cleared the interference, Ben had his comlink out to make a few long-needed calls back to various galaxies.

Ender and his dad had been good to talk to--or not talk to--but he needed to reconnect with some others, too--especially Jaina.

"Annoying," she admitted with a sigh. "We're not exactly each other's biggest fan right now. I've been keeping in touch more with you than with him."

Ben heaved a sigh. "I'm sorry, Jaina."

[solo_sword]

"Nothing to be sorry about yet," she said, though at this point it was more determination than optimism. "I haven't given up on him yet. I just want to smack him a few times."

"Maybe sooner than later?" Ben suggested, though it wasn't in his normal teasing tone. Flow-walking had squashed him rather flat.

"I'll do my best. And I'll see if I can't hit him extra hard," she told him. She hated the whole situation. Hated it.

"I miss you," he said softly.

[solo_sword]

"I miss you, too, kiddo," she said. "Tell me you've at least got your Jaina bugging you for when I can't."

"Some," Ben said. "She's pretty busy with stuff on Coruscant now that Dad's out here."

[solo_sword]

"If it helps, I would bet you guys are having more fun..." she said, thinking of what Coruscant must be like right now.

"Being stuck in holes and licked by rocks...you know, you're probably right," Ben admitted.

[solo_sword]

"Well, wait, who's in charge with Luke gone?" That really determined the level of not fun.

Ben snickered. "Try to guess."

[solo_sword]

"I would have said Kyp or Corran but now I'm scared," Jaina admitted.

[momslilassassin]

"Wrong on both guesses," Ben said. "Think someone Daala would like. You know, if she liked anyone."

[solo_sword]

"Hold up. Daala?" First things first here.

[momslilassassin]

"...oops?"

[solo_sword]

"Don't worry about it, I have way too much on my plate to worry about her, too," she decided quickly. "I'm guessing that means it's really not Kyp then, though."

[momslilassassin]

"It's kind of the anti-Kyp," Ben said.

[solo_sword]

Jaina had a feeling she knew who it might be now. "Then I'd definitely rather be getting licked by rocks, he wouldn't let me get away with anything."

[momslilassassin]

"Plus he's about as interesting as cardboard," Ben added uncharitably.

[solo_sword]

"I've heard that said about Jag, too. I think Jag needs apologies from those people now. I mean... I guess it could work," she said, trying to make herself buy that.

[momslilassassin]

"Cilghal doesn't say anything bad about him," Ben offered.

But then, Cilghal wouldn't.

[solo_sword]

"She's Cilghal," Jaina said. "He's been in charge of things before, I don't doubt he can do the job. I don't really have anything against him, but... with Daala?"

[momslilassassin]

"You're there and so's your mom," Ben said. "Hopefully we won't get played too badly."

She shook her head. "Did you ever guess boring negotiations would turn into this?"
