Ender's Swingin' Bachelor Pad, Naboo [Wednesday, Fandom time]

The nice thing about how time worked on Naboo was that even a few days away from Fandom meant that Ender and Ben had gotten almost a week to themselves to unwind.

Now the fridge was restocked, the rooms were prepared and the droid Ben had made was bustling industriously around getting rid of dust bunnies.

Ben and Ender were ready for their Fandom (and other universes!) invasion.

Ender sighed, and finally passed her both the bottle of water and the one paracetamol he'd snagged from the medicine cabinet. "I'll keep it in mind," he said. "Where did you run off to? Ben didn't mention you joining him and Warren."

"I took in some 'cultural dancing' of my own," Karla said, gratefully (and rather pathetically) taking both and swallowing them down. "There's a place called The Landing Strip in Theed. It sounded like fun."

She eyed him and added, "If I'd thought you'd be at all interested, I'd've invited you along, but I didn't want you to feel like you had to sit through the, ahh, performance just to keep an eye on me."

"I'll come along next time. You need a designated driver," Ender told her.

The cultural dancing was not really a relevant reason.

"Especially in Theed, where I'm told they have drinks that can quite literally blow up in your face."

"Hey!" Karla protested, then regretted the outburst immediately. "Hey." Okay, yeah, that was better. No yelling. "I took a space taxi there and back!"

Mostly because she hadn't bothered to memorize how to get to The Landing Strip the afternoon before and hadn't wanted to wind through the streets of Theed alone after dark.

"The nice males at the club made sure to call a reputable service for me and everything. Umm, I think the Happenin' Hapan made sure I got into it okay and that the driver knew where to bring me. Or maybe it was Argon the Anatomical Android? No, wait. It was Long Dong Phong!"

Ender visibly winced at those names. "Val would have a field day..."

Karla shrugged and smiled. "They suit the atmosphere?" she offered. "And they were all very kind and very attentive. I had a lot of fun--they even pulled me up on stage to dance with them!"

They had all been very suggestive and inappropriate dances, of course, considering the establishment. But no one other than Karla would ever have to know that. Well, Karla, the dancers, and all the other patrons.

...And anyone who had access to the cameras. Not that Karla knew that.

"It was an excellent evening, overall." Helped along by the way Karla had been slinging credit vouchers around and buying drinks for everyone. "I'm pretty sure I was invited back tonight. They promised me the best table and free drinks for the evening!"

Ender laughed in spite of himself.

"You would manage to become the focal point of the local nightlife," he said. "But let's avoid the hangover this time. It doesn't really suit you."

"Hangovers are the worst," she informed him, sounding very pathetic. Look, the paracetamol was working, just not fast enough for Little Miss Impatientpants.

Or, rather, Little Miss I'd-Like-My-Head-To-Stop-Beating-Like-The-Club's-Dancefloor.

"I probably should have realized that my body wouldn't recognize alien alcohol. The alien bit should have been a clue, I think."

'Should have.'

"Karla, the day you look before you leap, the shock will probably kill me," Ender said fondly. "Like I said, the drinks here can be dangerous. More so than just giving you a headache, even."

"I didn't order anything that involved an ingredient that was also an explosive," Karla promised. "Or any of the ones that were poisonous to carbon-based life forms. And only three of the ones I had to sign a waiver for."

That was...like looking. Wasn't it?

"Next time, stay away from the waivers entirely," Ender suggested. "Actually, next time... I'd advise you to try the blue milk."

It was good! He drank quite a lot of it!

See? Blue milk!

Karla actually raised her head up to look at Ender. And tried very hard not to laugh. "I don't know whether to take you up on that or not," she mused. "On the one hand, I'd probably pay to see you there. On the other, I wouldn't have any fun if you were bored out of your mind while we were there."

Even Ender's inner chimp would probably be tempted. At least a little. Maybe.

"And we might decide not to invite Ben and Warren along with us," Karla declared. "Because I am the maturest and so there."
