Ben, Ender & Val's hotel room [Sunday afternoon]

Ben stared at his daughter, sitting inside the suitcase he was trying to pack.

"Ice cream," she told him, narrowing her eyes.

"Packing first," Ben replied, crossing his arms.

"ICE CREAM!"

"Ow," Ben said, holding his hands over his ears.

"Never," Ben said, lingering a bit in the kiss before Val grabbed onto his legs. "No kissing!"

Ender let out a soft snort, and reached down to ruffle her hair. "Honey," he said, "Kissing is just something we do, just like getting ice cream everywhere is something you do."

Val thought that over. "Kiss me too!" she declared.

Ben lifted her up and kissed her cheek. "Always."

Ender leaned in to kiss the other cheek. "We like kissing you best," he said solemnly.

Ben looked over Val's head at Ender, looking completely amused.

Because yeah, that wasn't exactly true.

Ender caught his eye and threw him a quick wink. "But now we have to get back to packing, or you'll never get your ice cream."

"OKAY," Val said. "I'll get Doll. And Bantha."

"That will be very helpful," Ben said, nodding. "I'll pack the clothes."

"And I'll make the rounds to ensure we've got everything from the bathroom and your food," Ender said, pulling away with a little amused shake of his head.

"I think there's some milk left in the fridge than can probably get tossed," Ben called over his shoulder.

"On it," Ender called back, rummaging around the small fridge until he found the milk. It looked bloated. "...We need to be more careful about expiry dates."

"Yeah," Ben agreed. "Don't open it. You'll regret it."

"I wasn't considering it," Ender said. He sighed. "I guess I'm going outside to find a dumpster. Wish me luck."

"Ice cream!" Val hollered from her spot on the ground with Doll and Bantha.

"That's not how you make ice cream, honey," Ben said. "At all. Believe me."

"I think it does involve milk to some degree," Ender said, "But not this milk."

He held up the swollen pack so she could see it. "Bad milk," he said.

Then he vanished out the door.

Which was why, when he returned, Ben and Val were looking at holo footage of ice cream being made.

"Chocolate!" Val yelled excitedly.

"Now you've done it," Ender said wryly, pulling the door shut behind him. "She'll probably want to try."

"Yes," Val said definitively. "Once we're off the ship, though," Ben said. "No strange cooking experiments other than what I make for dinner."

Ender laughed softly. "When we pick up your aunt on Naboo, we'll let you try," he said. "Or when we reach the next planet."

Val seemed satisfied with that, watching the holo on repeat as Ben finished the packing.

"Okay. Snack time?"

"I think we have a little bit of applesauce left," Ender voluntered.

"ICE CREAM," Val yelled.

"First the applesauce," Ben tried.

Ender let out a wry sigh. "I think we might have exhausted her patience," he said. "Let's just walk to Chilly Boulder."

"Split a Skywalker?" Ben offered, grinning. "I'll tell them no on the wasabi ice cream."

Ender laughed softly. "You and Val can split a Skywalker," he said. "I'll have a banana."

"There's a banana at the bottom of the pail," Ben wheedled.
