Ben returned to his room from his club activities just in time for his father to call. A shuttle would be picking him up Friday afternoon for an assignment to be explained when he arrived on Endor.

Ben sighed as he sat down on the floor. At least it was his father calling the shots--he was pretty sure that meant he wouldn't be assassinating anyone this trip home.

But he'd probably need his lightsaber.

He pulled the parts for the new hilt out from under his bed and began welding them together using nothing but the Force. If the weapon was going to be his, it had to be built the old-fashioned way.

And for Jedi, it didn't get more old-fashioned than this.

Ben was so focused on the weapon floating above his lap that he didn't realize he'd left the door cracked open.

Ben leaned in to brush his nose against hers. "And you like me anyway."

She laughed softly. "You better believe it."

"I'll be back before you know it," he promised, then tried to steal a kiss.

Tahiri was about to say something about how he'd better, but then there was kissing, and it derailed whatever she'd been about to say.

"You know I'll miss you," was what she finally said.

"I might even let you miss me more," he teased.

Tahiri tried to nip at his lower lip. "No, I think I'll let you do that this time. Because I'm fair that way."

Ben let out a little moan when she did that. "Okay," he gasped.

"See?" Tahiri pulled back just enough to let him get a glimpse of the mischievous look in her eyes. "I think that's a deal."

"I think you cheated," Ben said, though there was nothing in his tone that said he was upset about that at all.

"I can't help it if it's just that easy for me to convince you," Tahiri informed him.

[momslilassassin]

"You're very persuasive," Ben agreed, sneaking in to kiss her cheek.

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri closed her eyes and grinned, reaching up to touch his face. "You rubbed off on me."

Ben sighed and closed his eyes. "I'm an amazing influence," he declared. "More people should be like me."

"They really, really should," Tahiri agreed. "How's the lightsaber coming along?"

[momslilassassin]

"Slowly," Ben admitted. "Is it really going to take months?"

[weetuskenraider]

"My first one took forever," Tahiri said. "But I don't have your touch with mechanical stuff." A memory came back to her, the look on Anakin's face the first time he saw her with her lightsaber, and she grinned wistfully.

Ben reached out to trace her lips with his finger. "You look happy," he said. "Share?"

"I was just remembering the first time I got to use mine," Tahiri said, and kissed his finger. "Anakin wanted to know where I got it, as if I didn't know how to build one."

It was . . . nice, really, to be able to talk about this, and smile.

"Lightsabers R Us," Ben teased. "They have a store on Yavin."

"That must have been the one place I didn't explore, then," Tahiri mused. "You'll do an amazing job with yours. I know you will."

She was so very objective.

"It's right next to the big tree," Ben said, giving the galaxy's most unhelpful fake directions. "I'm kind of interested to see what crystal I end up picking."

[weetuskenraider]

"Oh, right, the big tree." Tahiri poked at him with her big toe. "As opposed to all the tiny little Massassi ones. And I want to know what crystal you end up with, too." Well, of course she would.

"How did you pick yours?" he asked.

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri nudged him again, just because she could. "Which one? The one I lost, or the one I have now?"

"The one you have now," Ben decided.
