After his daily run and trip to the gym, Ben had retreated to his room (not that he would see it that way) to continue working on the Thor helmet he'd been making for Jono.

Which was why Ben was currently hovering a good foot off of the ground and looking quite pleased with himself. The motor to make the wings actually serve a purpose was working!

The door was cracked open.

"We could have a hot date," he said. "Want to go bowling?"

That is not a hot date, Ben.

Yes, because growing up in the Dune Sea and the jungles of Yavin 4 had given Tahiri such an astral concept of what a social life should be.

"We haven't done that in a while, have we?" Tahiri bit her lower lip, considering. "It could be fun."

"I think we could both use some fun," Ben replied.

Amazing how fast the relative relaxation of the week off had disappeared, huh?

As fast as a halfway salvageable piece of machinery within a hundred klicks of a sandcrawler.

"I think we're overdue for it," she agreed; the sad part was how that didn't really surprise Tahiri. "Fun involving really ugly mismatched shoes," she added, and hey, the face she made was halfway playful.

"Well, if you have to wear them, they should always be ugly," Ben said. "Unless they are those neat ones you wore to the dance last year where they looked more like jewelry."

"If I have to wear them, I don't care if they're the hottest new style. They'll always be hideous," Tahiri told him. "And those were pretty much just jewelry anyway. You liked those?"

"Not for me to wear or anything," Ben said, blushing. Maybe he wasn't supposed to have remembered them or something? "But they looked good on you."

[weetuskenraider]

"I don't think they're quite your style." And now she'd be looking at him oddly, but pleased anyway that he'd remembered. (Never mind that photographic memory of his. She could still be flattered.) "I guess I'll have to remember that next time there's a dance."

That they would probably not get around to dancing at. Again.

"Think we'll ever dance at one?" he asked.

[weetuskenraider]

"Well, there was that one time," Tahiri replied. "So it could happen again."

Ben grinned at her. "I like dancing with you."

[weetuskenraider]

"Once was enough for you to decide that?" she teased, poking at his stomach.

"I get to hug you for four straight minutes in public," Ben said. "What's not to like?"

[weetuskenraider]

"You do that a lot without music anyway," Tahiri pointed out. "But I like it too."

[momslilassassin]

"Good," Ben said, leaning in enough to rub his nose against hers. "Hi."

[weetuskenraider]

"Hi yourself," Tahiri replied, going a little crosseyed but putting her arms around his waist anyway. "You seem to be doing better today."

"I got a little bit of sleep last night," Ben admitted. Curled at the bottom of Ender's bed, and that was sad, but... "That helped."

[weetuskenraider]

"Usually does." That was enough of an excuse to give him a proper hug, as far as Tahiri was concerned. She wished sleep helped. "Having some fun might help a little bit, too. Good thing we're going to be doing that, huh?"

Ben nodded and wrapped his fingers in her hair. "I like fun," he said.

Tahiri made a soft happy noise and nuzzled at his chest. "You? Like fun? I never would have expected that."

"It's because you mix me up with the other non-fun loving Jedi," he said, moving his hand down to give her a quick neck massage.

[weetuskenraider]

She might be just a little bit tense, yeah. She'd stopped noticing a while ago. "There are other non-fun loving Jedi?"

Not her wittiest response, but the massage was distracting.

Ben frowned and moved his other hand up, massaging her shoulders. "I've never found Zekk all that interesting," he said.

"He's not exactly the Jedi you hope you're sitting next to at a boring function, yeah," Tahiri agreed. She might just close her eyes for a second here. Good thing she was leaning against him.

Ben had kind of counted on her leaning against him. This way it was much easier to work the kinks out of the small of her back, too.

"But that wasn't my group of friends, either," he said. "Maybe he's thrilling when he's talking to Jaina."
