An afternoon thinking he was a little girl had not been exactly what Ben had been planning, though the distraction had been kind of a relief.

...not that he'd admit that.

He was in his room, carefully examining his air vent to see how the gremlin had gotten in and looking to see if there was a way to discourage them from returning without breaking the terms of the treaty.

The door was open a crack.

John blinked. He opened his mouth as if to speak and stopped.

That was...something.

Ben curled in on himself. "Yeah."

"How is she?" Why was he asking that? John should not feel for a Jaina that was not his and yet.

"Dealing," Ben said. "I didn't see her much before I left. She was in the clinic."

"Must've been some fight," he figured, shuddering a little. "After that Jacen jumped her last semester..." John's anger and frustration was written all over his face.

"He did his very best to kill her first," Ben said softly. "It's going to be a while before she can walk again."

"Jesus." That was...John didn't want to think about his Jaina like that. "She doesn't need any more of this."

"That's what Jag said," Ben said a little unnecessarily.

Nice. John felt that like a punch in the gut.

"Oh yeah? Guess we got something in common after all." And he hated that it was Jaina.

"You don't whine nearly as much," Ben said, relenting a little. "He got left behind on Endor during an operation and I almost stunned him just to get some peace."

Sure he didn't. Just not that Ben had seen.

"Almost too bad you didn't," John joked, trying not to think where he'd be in twelve years. "I bet that would've gone down well."

"I was in charge," Ben said. Yes, in charge of Jag. Fear. "That probably would've just made things happen faster."

John almost laughed. "You were in charge of Jag? Oh, that I love."

"Dad put me in charge of the entire relocation operation," Ben said, trying to keep the pride from his voice.

"That sounds kinda big. You guys relocating the Ewoks somewhere?" John asked.

Ben shook his head. "We planned an attack on Jacen from our base there. Figured we should get out before he found us."

He shrugged. "He found us at or next location anyway."

John was going to talk with Jacen. He had decided.

"No need to run around any more, I guess."

"He used a dark side trick to track us from the first time he and Jaina faced off," Ben said. "Dad knew it and let it happen." He yanked at his braid. "I don't want to know the future like that."

That didn't sound like fun to John either. "Is there a chance of you seeing the future like that?"

Ben nodded. "Dad can do it, and Granddad, and Jacen..."

Nope, that name wasn't getting easier to say.

Weird. "Why can't Jaina? Does it skip girls?"

"Shoddy characterization, I imagine...I'm not sure," Ben said. "I've never heard Aunt Leia mention seeing the future..."

"Seems unfair to the girls, though I wouldn't push another weird Jedi thing on Jaina," John sighed.

Ben decided not to mention the shatterpoint thing. "She's weird enough," he declared instead.

Yeah, John wasn't going to tell Ben how much he liked the weird. Or how the events of Sunday had put some things in perspective.

"Yeah, I'm kinda looking forward to seeing how much weirder she gets this week with gremlin bites."
