Room 204 [afternoon]

"Last load," Ben said from behind a pile of metal. "Think we could start our own branch of Stark's right here in the room?"

His side of his new room was already neatly organized--not that he had much that wasn't droid parts--and he was talking mostly to hide his nerves.

Given the room's other occupant, he wasn't sure why he was even trying.

//What, yer worried you'll end up with another semester of board games, mate?//

Jonothon wasn't in any classes on board games. Jonothon also wasn't about to admit that he'd found that fact to be mildly disappointing.

"Or ones that talk about how astral seeing the future is," Ben replied. "I don't want to know, you know?"

[furnaceface]

//I can't imagine there's anything in my future worth tryin' to get a sneak-preview of in the first place.// Jono shrugged. //And if it's on the way anyhow, knowin' tomorrow just means I'll end up wasting today waiting for it. Load of bollocks going about it that way, if you ask me.//

"I have too many relatives running around from different timelines to not sweat the future a little," Ben admitted, "but their versions, not mine." He smiled. "I don't want them to screw up other versions of me. It's entirely selfish."

[furnaceface]

//It's you,// Jonothon replied. //Maybe not the same version of yer that's standin' here right now, but it's still some other Ben. If there were some alternate me out there, I'd hate to think that someone else buggered him up tryin' to change the future.//

"Exactly," Ben said, glad that Jonothon understood. "But if telling them certain things makes their Ben's life more difficult, well, I'll just shut up, right?"

//How's that worked for yer so far?//

It was an honest question, really. He'd shown up here to and met not only his old school's headmistress, but also younger versions of other people who would affect his world in a big way. It was disconcerting to think that a few errant words could possibly cause so much damage down the road.

"It depends," Ben said. "Some of my relatives get angry when I hold things back from them, even if it's for their own good."

[furnaceface]

Jonothon nodded a little. Yes, he supposed he could see where people might choose to get upset over something like that. But at the same time...

//They'll find out what there is to know about their future when they finally get around to it themselves,// he decided. //No harm in being patient, is there?//

Ben laughed. "Patience isn't necessarily a virtue Skywalkers possess," he said. "Sit down!" He gestured and his desk chair pulled out from the desk.

Ben's chair just... Wait. What?

Jonothon blinked. It wasn't as though it was something he'd never seen before, but it was definitely floating around in the realm of 'unexpected,' at just that particular moment, and he spared Ben a glance that suggested about as much, too.

//I'm beginnin' to wonder,// he noted as he made his way over to take the offered seat, //if there's anybody on this island who doesn't have a surprise like that hiding in reserve.//

Ben blushed. "Oh, sorry," he said. "I'm a Jedi. Sometimes I forget."

And then Ben was blushing over it like it was something embarrassing? That was enough to make Jono boggle all the more.

//I'm not entirely sure what that is,// he noted, at length, //but where I'm from, if yer have abilities beyond what yer typical homo sapiens might show, they do a good deal to make sure yer don't get the opportunity to just forget.//

Was there a slight hint of envy in that somewhere? Maaaybe.

"I'm not supposed to just use my powers because of laziness," Ben replied. "Jedi are kind of...diplomatic monks with super powers at home."

[furnaceface]

//Yer can do more than just move chairs around, then?// Jono leaned back in the chair, making himself comfortable as he crossed his arms over his chest. //I've got my share of experience with people with powers, mate. The diplomatic monks bit, I'll admit, is a little new to me.//

"I can move pretty much anything around," Ben said. "My dad's way better at it, but he's been doing it for forty years, so he should be."

Ah, so being a super-powered diplomonk was all part of the family tradition as well. Jonothon nodded faintly.

//Plenty of experience, there.// A beat. //It's something yer born with, then? Or does it just creep up on yer one day when yer not looking as a nice little hello from Real Life at large?//

"Something I was born with," Ben said, "or at least the Force-sensitivity is. Being a Jedi is more of a calling."

[furnaceface]

//Somethin' that comes with the package, hm? Yer have it, best not to waste it, so get out there and do some bloody good with it?//

"Exactly," Ben said. "It's part of the family tradition. Grandfather, father, mother, aunt, cousins..."

[furnaceface]

//In the blood,// Jono mused, nodding in recognition. There was a bit of that in the Starsmore bloodline as well, but Jonothon liked to completely ignore the hell out of his own family's heritage. It was a little less 'diplomat monk' and a little too 'freakish secret society' for his liking. //Proud tradition and all. Do yer suppose it's easer, growing up with those powers of yers? Than if they'd just shown up one day, I mean?//

"I'm not sure," Ben admitted. "I didn't exactly use the powers for years. I was afraid of them."

[furnaceface]

//Plenty of people are.// Jono? Speaking from experience? And how. //They can be dangerous, sometimes? Plenty of blokes on the flipside who don't understand what yer are or why yer can do those things? Too much bloody power all at once, so you get right worried it'll get too much and...//

Jono was shutting up, now. He didn't need to unleash a tirade on Ben's poor brain, here.

//.. And explode.//

Ben's eyes went to the scarf around Jono's neck. "Hypothetically," he said, though his eyes were sympathetic. "Right?"

//Purely hypothetical,// Jono replied, using that sort of tone that confirmed that he wasn't speaking hypothetically at all.
