Room 204 [afternoon]

"Last load," Ben said from behind a pile of metal. "Think we could start our own branch of Stark's right here in the room?"

His side of his new room was already neatly organized--not that he had much that wasn't droid parts--and he was talking mostly to hide his nerves.

Given the room's other occupant, he wasn't sure why he was even trying.

Ender had caught onto the nerves about the moment Ben had stepped in, but he'd decided to be kind, and not call Ben on it. He was seated on his bed, his own side of the room as sterile as it ever was. "I think Tony might have something to say about that," he said, "Or he'd at least insist we install an AI to run the place."

"You already have a mouse droid to fetch breakfast," Ben said with a smile. "What else could we need?"

"Any number of things, if Stark's to be taken at his word," Ender said, wryly, "Although I don't make a habit of that."

Ben kicked off his boots and lounged on his bed. "I don't think he was violently fond of me the only time we've talked," he replied.

"I'm not sure Stark is generally fond of anyone, within reason," Ender replied, watching him.

"He seemed awfully protective of you," Ben said. "But maybe this is also why he has an AI friend. Real people won't put up with him as long."

Well. Jono was all settled in. He hadn't really had anything to unpack, and so his concept of being all set up pretty much began and ended with staking out a side of the dorm room to call his own. Eventually, this would mean heaps of dirty laundry, and probably records strewn about. Lovingly.

As it stood, there wasn't anything in his own room keeping him about, and so he decided to go check on a particular someone else who ought to be in the process of settling in by now, as well.

He gave a light rap on the doorframe to Ben's new room.

Ben smiled. "Hi! Come in!"

His side of the room was insanely tidy except for the piles of metal and electronics.

Jono was willing to forgive the tidiness. Ben hadn't had a proper chance to break it in yet, he figured.

//Afternoon, Ben,// Jono greeted, nodding as he stepped inside. //Looks like yer settling into yer new room alright?//

Ben nodded. "It's strange being on this floor," he admitted, "but I'm living with a friend, so that should make it--" all kinds of awkward, "easier."

He smiled. "How are you doing? Meet anyone interesting at the picnic?"

//I haven't been given any reason to whinge yet,// Jono decided. //Met more bloody telepaths yesterday just by talking than I expected to see in my whole bloody life, plus a version of my last school's headmistress who seems t'be younger than I am. Yesterday was... educational, mate.//

"Ben Skywalker," Tahiri said from the doorway, not looking half as stern as she was pretending to be, "you could have told me you were moving."

She wasn't upset. She just wanted to give him a hard time.

"I didn't see you yesterday!" he yelped. "There were too many people!"

"Excuses, Jedi Skywalker?" she teased. "I'd think you at least know how to use your comlink."

Any second now she might start laughing.

Blushing. Soooo much blushing.

"Sorry."

"Relax, gundark. I'm not mad," she said, the laughter sneaking into her voice now. "Even if I have to make an even longer trip to come visit you now."

Because that wouldn't be awkward at all, really.

Well, not as far as she knew!

Karla knocked on the door, ice cream in hand, bowls and spoons conveniently vanished away. After all, she reasoned with herself, it was stupid to avoid anyone over things done while she was an Arcerian kitten. Just dumb. And it was only nice to welcome a friend to the best floor there was.

"Kiss kiss," she called, in case they didn't know who it was. Which was possible, with her shields cranked up to maximum.

Ben grinned. "Karla! Come in! I didn't feel you coming."

"Lots of newbies," she said dismissively, coming into the room. Which, as a statement of fact, was true. "I brought ice cream," she sing-songed, holding out her prize. "To welcome you to the second floor and as a consolation to Ender." She shot a teasing grin towards Ben before waving his roommate.

"Ender doesn't need a consolation," Ben declared, grinning. "He's got the most astral roommate ever now."

"Riiight," Karla said, rolling her eyes. "I'm consoling him for no longer being the most astral male in the room. Not because he'll be living with statements like that for the next however-long."

Ender had been vaguely aware, even if he didn't have any Jedi or otherwise psychic powers - or maybe because of it. "Hey, Karla," he did call, once her voice carried through, and sat back on his bed.

"Hi Ender," Karla said, flashing him a grin. "I've brought ice cream by. As a consolation for you, because I'm not sure there will be enough room in here for you, Ben, and Ben's ego. I'd've brought something else, but I realize I don't really know what you like to eat. Other than apples. And those are dangerous."

"I'll eat anything," Ender said, wryly. Or rather, he didn't prefer anything in particular, but that would sound a little on the odd side. "I'm thinking about putting in an extra suite for Ben's ego, though."

"Maybe if we kicked out the students in the next three rooms, it should fit," Karla said, scooping some ice cream into a bowl for Ender. "Which, fortunately, leaves my room unscathed."
