Room 204 [afternoon]

"Last load," Ben said from behind a pile of metal. "Think we could start our own branch of Stark's right here in the room?"

His side of his new room was already neatly organized--not that he had much that wasn't droid parts--and he was talking mostly to hide his nerves.

Given the room's other occupant, he wasn't sure why he was even trying.

"Exactly," Karla said dryly. "And if you could include food that has some kind of nutritional value to it, I'd be ever-so-grateful."

"She doesn't like those," Ben made up.

"Riiiiight. So Tahiri exists on a diet of ice cream and cookies? Or do you just think that because that's all she ever eats with you around?"

Ben's cheeks went pink. "Oh."

Karla groaned and hid her face. "I had been joking, you know."

"It's a party!" Ben replied. "It's supposed to be full of terrible foods!"

[glacial_queen]

"I'd been thinking of having it take the form of a dinner, rather than a regular party," Karla said, sighing a bit. "I thought Tahiri would be more comfortable with that than an actual party."

"As long as it's not one that has sixteen forks," Ben said cautiously. "Those are just painful dinners."

That was a glare leveled in Ben's direction. "Do I look like the kind of person who would insist on sixteen forks? Ew." She shuddered.

Someone hadn't been invited to a lot of her mother's Court parties. For a good reason.

He laughed. "Will there be any forks?"

"If I can get you to move beyond ice cream and cookies," Karla said with a smirk.

"How about cookies large enough to need forks?" he teased.

[glacial_queen]

"Does. Not. Count. And neither does using green food coloring to make it look more like a vegetable!" She'd tried that one already. If it didn't work for her...

Ben pouted overdramatically. "You're no fun at all," he said.

[glacial_queen]

"Because I don't want you dying of malnutrition. Yeah, I'm a real brat like that sometimes." Karla laughed. "Maybe I'll just finish off the last of this ice cream so you can't have anymore," she threatened.

"Even more mean!" Ben replied. "I don't know why I let you stick around and insult me like this."

Ignore the laughter. Really.

"You don't," Karla said, tossing her hair. "I'm here visiting Ender. Well--doing him a favor and keeping you occupied so he can have a few minutes of peace. I'm kind that way."

Ben reached out to bat her with a pillow. "How sweet of you."

There really wasn't anywhere for her to go, so Karla just held up her hands to try to ward off the pillow. "Thank you," she said between giggles, "for noticing!"
