The nice thing about the time difference between home and Fandom was that Ben had time to run a few errands for his father (the reason he'd come back home), pick up a package of comfort food for Tahiri and still have time to meet up with Ender and Karla for lunch before they headed back.

"So, any particular food requests today?" he asked them. "Dad said he might be able to swing by if we pick somewhere close to the Temple."

"I'd ask why everything seems to revolve around food whenever I visit," Ender said, a little dryly, "But I think that's a question that answers itself."

"Oh! Oh! I know the answer!" Karla said, raising her hand. "Is it cause you're with Ben?"

"Two gold stars to Karla," Ender said, wryly. "Think he has a black hole in that stomach of his?"

"That would explain why he's so dense sometimes..." Karla mused with a merry smile Ben's way. "And where all the ice cream goes."

"Well, I am a genius," Ender said, easily. "Although Ben's density doesn't take a lot of testing."

"I'm not about to argue with either statement," Karla replied, dimpling. "Though I might need to ask if it required any testing at all, or was simple observation enough?"

"My observational skills are beyond the par, miss Di Glacia," Ender replied, cracking a slight smile.

Karla doffed an imaginary hat in Ender's direction. "I cannot argue with fact, Lord Wiggin," she said, grinning back.

"It's because eating is very important," Ben informed him loftily. "Or would you prefer a different subject? Bean and Petra focused on babies. Is that more to your taste?"

"I'm not going to blend the two and talk about eating babies, that's for sure."

Ben burst out laughing. "Good to know. Ewok cuisine is kind of...out there... anyway."

"Ewok cuisine?" Ender asked, lifting an eyebrow. "Now I'm almost scared."

"They tried to roast up Uncle Han and Dad for a celebration in Aunt Leia's honor," Ben said with a grin. "We try to chalk that up to cultural differences."

"Not a practice they kept up," Ender said, and paused. "...I'm taking."

"Not when we're around anyway," Ben said. "What they do when we're not on the moon is entirely up to them."

"I'd ask for something exotic, but that's kind of moot by now," Karla said, laughing. "I guess the better question is what's good near the Temple?"

"There used to be a diner back during the Clone Wars that Granddad told me about, but that's, like, five wars ago," he said. "There's decent Ithorian food if you're feeling adventurous..."

"What's Ithorian food like?" Karla asked, suspicious. "Nothing still wiggly, right?"

"Nope, mostly vegetarian." Ben nudged her shoulder, then tilted his head toward an alien walking by. "Ithorian."

It was hard not to stare. While Karla knew plenty of people who were not human, Draca was still the most alien creature she'd ever seen in her life--and this Ithorian eclipsed her easily.

So rather than stare, she just kept darting little glances out of the corner of her eye. "Astral." Glance away, don't be rude, look at something in a stall, now sneak another look. "Ithorian sounds good if Ender agrees."

Ben tried to keep his amusement from being too obvious. "I think he'll be thrilled I want to eat a vegetable."

"I refuse to believe it until I see it," Karla said, snickering. "And if I do see it, I'm going to pay money for the school to start making Ithorian cuisine."

"I can eat vegetables!" Ben insisted. "Ice cream is just better."

[glacial_queen]

"Come tell me that when you get scurvy," Karla said, rolling her eyes. "Or when we can't fit you into your X-Wing anymore."

"I'm not fat!" Ben practically screeched.

Way to draw attention, Ben.
