Yes, he still thought it was funny.

Ben glanced at the calendar one more time, chuckled and commed his father.

"Skywalker."

"Hey, Dad. May the Fourth be with you!"

There was a pause and then a heavy sigh. "Again?"

Ben laughed, hung up and went back to putting his droid back together. Tiny him had been industrious about ripping it apart.

Tiny him was annoying.

"I'm not making the joke this time," Tahiri told him, poking her head through the doorway. Yes, she'd seen the calendar.

She spotted the droid pieces and laughed. "Are you really that desperate for things to do that you have to go making more work for yourself?"

Ben sighed. "When I was four, I decided to fix this," he said. "With a hydrospanner."

"Very quietly too, I bet." Tahiri wandered in to sit on the edge of his bed and watch, more than slightly amused. "Your concept of fixing things seems to have changed a lot between then and now."

"Yes, now I actually fix things," Ben replied with a tiny smile.

"And talk," she added mischievously. "What is it with me and boys who don't like to talk much, anyhow?"

Oh, you left yourself wide open for a smart reply there, Tahiri.

Ben looked at her and laughed. "Oh, that's too easy," he teased.

"Oh, ha, ha. Very funny, Ben." Tahiri flung his own pillow at him. "Maybe you just like listening to me talk."

His smile turned more genuine. "Of course I do."

Tahiri hopped off the bed and wandered over to sit beside him. "Even when I was nine and couldn't shut up to save my life?"

It didn't even seem weird any more that she could say that to him.

"It was cute," Ben declared, "and still quieter than an entire room of shrieking kids jumping on the sofas."

"I missed that one. Did you get them to shut up by being adorably quiet and staring at them with your big, big blue eyes?" Tahiri teased.

Mostly teased. She wasn't kidding about the adorable part, or the eyes.

"They didn't get quiet, but, yes," Ben replied.

He blinked. "Adorably?"

"Uh huh." She reached over to poke him. "You're so cute as a four-year-old."

Which . . . he would be in her time soon, wouldn't he? Huh.

Ben moved out of the way, laughing. "I bet you were too," he said. "Were you a Sand Person yet?"

"When I was four? Yes," Tahiri replied, nodding and scrambling closer to poke at him again. "For two years, by then, having to wear those awful masks all the time. I don't remember much of anything before that at all."

"Me either," Ben said, though that was mostly due to his mad repressing skillz. "On the not remembering, not the masks. Though I bet I'd look great in a mask."

"Nobody looks great in those masks," Tahiri said, making a face. "Unless by great you mean a little scary, which is the whole point. Besides, they're stuffy and horrible."

"I've never tried one on," Ben replied.

"Believe me, you're not missing a thing," Tahiri assured him.

"And there goes my idea for Halloween this year," he teased.

[weetuskenraider]

"Well, if we get you a clean one and it's in cooler weather, it wouldn't be so bad," Tahiri said after about five seconds of laughing. "You do know I'll hassle you about it if it's not authentic, though."

"Oh, I thought we'd wear matching outfits," Ben said, eyes wide.

Tahiri stared at him, mouth open, then shook her head. "You realize I wouldn't even consider that if it wasn't you asking, don't you?"

Ben laughed. "That must mean you like me a lot."

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri snorted and sprawled out on the floor next to him. "For a Skywalker, you are awfully slow on the uptake sometimes."
