Yes, he'd done it last year.

Yes, he still thought it was funny.

Ben glanced at the calendar one more time, chuckled and commed his father.

"Skywalker."

"Hey, Dad. May the Fourth be with you!"

There was a pause and then a heavy sigh. "Again?"

Ben laughed, hung up and went back to putting his droid back together. Tiny him had been industrious about ripping it apart.

Tiny him was annoying.

"Believe me, you're not missing a thing," Tahiri assured him.

"And there goes my idea for Halloween this year," he teased.

[weetuskenraider]

"Well, if we get you a clean one and it's in cooler weather, it wouldn't be so bad," Tahiri said after about five seconds of laughing. "You do know I'll hassle you about it if it's not authentic, though."

"Oh, I thought we'd wear matching outfits," Ben said, eyes wide.

Tahiri stared at him, mouth open, then shook her head. "You realize I wouldn't even consider that if it wasn't you asking, don't you?"

Ben laughed. "That must mean you like me a lot."

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri snorted and sprawled out on the floor next to him. "For a Skywalker, you are awfully slow on the uptake sometimes."

[momslilassassin]

He leaned in to kiss her. "We all have our blind spots."

[weetuskenraider]

"You'd think after this long, you'd have figured that out by now," Tahiri teased, wrapping an arm around him. She bumped noses lightly with him before kissing him, but by design.

"Hi," Ben said, hugging her hard.

[weetuskenraider]

"Hi yourself," Tahiri responded, hugging him back just as hard. "I'm not being very helpful at putting that droid back together right now, am I?"

She didn't sound sorry about it, though.

"Not really," Ben agreed, "but I think that can wait. How are you?"

[weetuskenraider]

"Fine. A little restless," she admitted. And not happy about people leaving, but she thought that went without saying for both of them. "Wondering -- again -- if we have to worry about any familiar faces showing up in the crop of new kids, and who I'm going to get for a little sibling. Did you sign up?"

"I did," Ben said, nodding. "Last time I got Jono, and he's a good guy." He grinned. "They can't all be like Alex."

[weetuskenraider]

That was someone else she needed to check in with again. "Jono is definitely a good guy," Tahiri agreed with a smile. "And none of the others I've gotten have been a pain, either."

"A lot of mine disappear," Ben admitted. "I was starting to think it was me."

[weetuskenraider]

"Well, not everyone can live up to your level of astral," Tahiri said offhandedly. Not that she'd wish disappearance on Alex, even.

"So true," Ben said. "There's normally a rigorous obstacle course and essay before you are allowed to talk to me."

[weetuskenraider]

"I never had to write an essay," Tahiri had to point out.

[momslilassassin]

"You were grandfathered in," Ben lied.

[weetuskenraider]

The corners of Tahiri's mouth twitched. "That's an interesting choice of words."

[momslilassassin]

Ben's cheeks went pink. "You are pretty old," he teased.

[weetuskenraider]

"I'm hardly decrepit," she retorted. "Besides, if I'm so much older you shouldn't be giving me so much attitude."

. . . because you never did that to anyone older than you ever, Tahiri. Really.

[momslilassassin]

Ben laughed at her. "Because you've been nothing but polite and deferential to the Masters."

[weetuskenraider]

"I am a paragon of courtesy and respect," Tahiri insisted.

It was hard to be convincing when every other word was punctuated by laughter though.
