The Portal on Shakespeare [a week later]

A mattress had been bought for guests, the house had been scrubbed from top to bottom and then bottom to top, and Ben, even though he knew that Luke wouldn't care in the slightest, had stressed out about what they'd have for dinner for the last three days.

Now he was a half-hour early for the time his father had sent him for the portal, bouncing nervously on the balls of his feet.

He was excited and terrified in almost equal measure.

Sounds like a fun vacation, huh?

"Too late," Ender said just as dryly, "Already got some the first time he got on a skimmer."

"Hey," Ben said, ruffling Ender's hair teasingly. "I didn't go fast until the second time!"

Well, sort of.

"We've had the conversation about the difference between ordinary people's 'fast' and Skywalker 'fast', right?" Ender said.

"Well, yes," Ben said, blushing as Luke chuckled. "But regular people fast isn't fast."

"No, it's just that Skywalker fast is 'suicidal'," Ender said, poking him in the side. "If you decide to go racing with your dad, please take it out of town?"

"Yes, your governorshipness," Ben said teasingly, smiling. "We'll go where there's nothing to hit."

"Thanks," Ender said, and reached over to grab a chip.

They spent the next half hour talking until Luke begged off for a nap. "Portals aren't great on the body clock," he said with a little headshake. "I think it should be about two in the morning."

"We'll get out of your hair," Ender said, getting up. "We set up your mattress in the corner. There's extra blankets in the closet if you need them."

Ben nodded. "And the kitchen's right through there," he said, pointing, "and the refresher's there."

"We'll be upstairs," Ender added. "Yell if you need anything."

"Sleep well," Ben said, heading up the stairs. "It really is good to see you."

"See you in the morning," Ender added, smiling a little, and then followed Ben up the stairs.

Ben wrapped his arm around Ender's waist and leaned in once they'd gotten to the top of the steps. "So far, so good."

Ender leaned in and kissed him softly. "Told you," he said.

This part felt a little weird with Luke in the house now, but it was their house and not his father's, and so Ben was going to kiss Ender back with a little more heat, just because he could and he wanted to..

Ender slid his fingers into Ben's hair and kissed him again, this time matching Ben's intensity.

"C'mon," he said, one hand sliding back down to Ben's.

Ben went eagerly, making sure that the door clicked closed as they went into the bedroom. "Hi, you."

"Hi," Ender said, sounding a little amused. He sat down on the bed, tugging Ben with him.

Ben straddled Ender's hips and gave him a proper kiss hello.

Or an extremely improper kiss, if it was out where other people could see it.

Ender made a little surprised noise in the back of his throat. Last time they'd spent this much time around Luke, Ben had been downright flustered by... everything, really.

He gripped Ben's thighs and returned the kiss once the surprise passed.

"Mine," Ben murmured, moving to nuzzle Ender's neck. "This is where I belong."

Ender's mouth quirked a little. "Yeah," he said softly, rubbing at Ben's leg.

"Love you a lot," Ben murmured, resting his head on Ender's shoulder.

Ender wrapped his arms around his torso a moment later. "I love you too," he whispered. "So much."
