Ben & Ender's house on Shakespeare [some evening]

Ben was curled up on the sofa with Ender's rather dry book on anatomy after Ben's research into the subject had brought up suggestions like "Bend Over," "Eating Out," and other titles that had sent Ben into an unhelpful cycle of flail. (Jane had a wicked sense of humor, not that Ben knew that.)

He had a dish of ice cream while he waited for dinner to warm up--his only outward sign of nerves--and kept glancing at the door waiting for Ender to come home.

Just another night, right? If he kept repeating that to himself, maybe he'd believe it.

Ben kissed him again. "I don't think I would've gone," he replied. "I slept better with you in the room too."

Ender sighed softly and kissed him back. "It feels foolish," he said. "I've slept alone for the better part of my life."

"Me too," Ben said. "But from that first night I crawled into bed with you...I don't know. You're soothing."

"You're soothing, too," Ender said, nuzzling his neck with a smile.

"And sometimes you're not soothing at all," Ben said, feeling his skin go to goosebumps, "and I love that part too."

That smile on Ender's face grew a little less innocent. "I can tell," he murmured. "I think I like not being terribly soothing occasionally."

"I've noticed that about you," Ben said, kissing that smile. "So I'm very, very glad you kissed me."

Ender sighed, plastering himself a little further over Ben's body. Hush. "I'm just glad you're in my room when I go to bed every night."

Ben ran his fingers through Ender's hair again. "And when I wake up," he said softly.

"And breakfast," Ender said. "Lunch. Dinner..."

"I love the life we have together," Ben whispered. "I've never been this happy."

"Yeah," Ender said, sounding a little shaky.

He wrapped his arms tightly around Ben. "I need to get out of here," he said very quietly. "But you're coming with me."

Ben hugged him back just as tightly. "Right now?"

Ender took a deep breath.

"Yeah," he said.

There was only so much he could take.

Ben sat up and pulled Ender up along with him. "Where to?"

Ender kissed his cheek.

"Let's grab a skimmer," he said softly. "See where we wind up."

"Then we'll probably need pants," Ben replied with a little smile.

"I can do pants," Ender said. "If you can."

"It'll have to be new pants," Ben said, heading for the closet. "I don't want to track down the first pair."

Ender followed him a moment later, pressing up against his back. "New pants is fine," he said. "Grab me a pair."

Ben reached back and pulled Ender's arms around him, sending a pulse of affection through the Force, and then found Ender's pants and handed them to him.

"Love you."

"Love you too," Ender said, kissing his cheek. "For indulging my late night whims, if nothing else."

He tugged his pants on as quickly as he could.

Ben tossed on a shirt as well, then slid into his shoes.

"Whenever you're ready, love," he said.

"Ready," Ender said, tying up his shoes. "Come on."

He just... had this terrible urge to get moving. Feel cold wind on his face.

Ben followed Ender outside, heading toward the skimmer.
