Ben & Ender's house on Shakespeare [some evening]

Ben was curled up on the sofa with Ender's rather dry book on anatomy after Ben's research into the subject had brought up suggestions like "Bend Over," "Eating Out," and other titles that had sent Ben into an unhelpful cycle of flail. (Jane had a wicked sense of humor, not that Ben knew that.)

He had a dish of ice cream while he waited for dinner to warm up--his only outward sign of nerves--and kept glancing at the door waiting for Ender to come home.

Just another night, right? If he kept repeating that to himself, maybe he'd believe it.

Ender smiled back at him. Goofily.

He felt lighter - not just because it'd been good, because it had been good plenty of times. But it was... nice to have this one last point of tension out of the way.

"We'll have to, then."

Ben reached out to cup Ender's cheek. "I do love that smile," he whispered.

"I do love you," Ender said, his smile softening a little.

Ben tapped his forehead against Ender's and stayed there for a moment, just breathing it all in.

"I'm still shaking," he finally noticed.

"I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment," Ender said, sliding his hands over Ben's arms, rubbing at them as if that would calm them.

"Probably good," Ben said with a little chuckle. "There was just more emotion than I expected. I'm still riding out the aftershocks."

"I know what you mean," Ender said, sliding his hand up to cup Ben's cheek. "That was... something."

Ben nodded. "I'm glad we waited," he murmured.

Ender leaned in and kissed him softly. "It took a while for us to get to the right time and the right place," he said.

"I'm glad we did, though," Ben said, kissing him back. "Thank you for putting up with my flailing."

"I don't deserve thanks for that," Ender said, looking fairly serious. "Making sure you're comfortable with what we're doing is part of the job."

Ben kissed him again. "I love you a ridiculous amount."

"I also do like our timing," Ender said softly. "It doesn't feel as much like we're just... ticking boxes on the big gay sex score card."

"There's a score card?" Ben asked, smiling a little giddily.

"Figure of speech, love," Ender said, sliding to the side so he could more effectively snuggle Ben. "I should have gone with Bingo."

Ben hugged him back tightly. "We could get bingo on the gay positions card?" he suggested.

Ender laughed. "With a Jedi in the mix, we might actually even manage that," he joked.

"Bring it on," Ben said, kissing his nose. "Just give me a few minutes."

Because right now his brain was skittering around inside his head and he sometimes forgot his name...

"Take as many as you need," Ender said.

He wasn't exactly aching to do anything other than lay right here and bask in the afterglow either.

"Wonder if this means I'll finally understand the walking funny jokes," Ben babbled aloud.

"Sorry," Ender muttered. He patted Ben's hip (since that was as close to his butt as he could get from here). "Better stay in bed a little longer."

"As long as you're in it with me," he replied, kissing Ender's cheek.

"As long as you want me to be," Ender said, and meant it. He stretched a bit, making a content noise.

Ben closed his eyes and let out a small sigh of his own, reveling in the feelings of calm and love he picked up by being in the room.

"A good long time," he whispered.

"Okay," Ender said softly, and let himself believe it.

Ben looked content, and he looked happy; it was impossible not to kiss him again.
